'3+1' programme
Within the scope of the '3+1' programme, a Hungarian and a Chinese higher education institution collaborate to jointly launch a field of study/specialization. In this program, Chinese students begin this joint education in China, and after 3 years, they complete it at the Hungarian university and obtain their undergraduate degree.
The Hungarian university undertakes to accept credit courses from the first three years, then takes over the student. In practice, during credit transfer, it may happen that the 3 + 1 arrangement does not work out, therefore - putting it in quotation marks - the program may be modified in forms such as '2+2', '3+1.5', etc.
The programme can be implemented either through simple cooperation or in a form supported by the Chinese government. In this case, the cooperation becomes part of the Chinese admission system, which entails additional obligations. During the first three years, the Hungarian side sends instructors to the Chinese partner university each semester to teach certain subjects. This can also be done in a block (3-week) format.
The programme resembles the dual degree model; however, here the mobility is one-sided, meaning only Chinese students come to Hungary, and it is optional, meaning they only arrive for the final year if they choose to do so.
Among the collaborating partners, we initiate short-term programs such as summer schools and faculty training sessions.
The '3+1' programme can also extend to master's studies in forms like '1+1', '1+0.5'.
